The Opening Chord: The Life and Works of Eva Metzger

February 12, 2023 |2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

A beautiful true story capturing the life of an extraordinary woman in an extraordinary time. Written by Niki Davy, Directed by Leanne Rowley & Produced by Chemeana Lacey.

1950. The world is recovering from World War II.

Eva Metzger, a German-Jewish woman, lies in a hospital bed. She is 29 years old, a sergeant in the British Army, an agent for the British Intelligence Service – and an ‘enemy alien’ in a foreign country.

At her side, nothing but a suitcase of belongings, a stack of original poetry and a typewriter.

As her homeland recovers from Nazi rule, and the world mourns millions of lives lost, Eva reflects on her journey: a journey away from her family, her country and her home; a journey of creativity, possibility and chance meetings; and a journey that often posed more questions than answers.

Who is she? Where is she? And where, if anywhere, does she belong?

‘The Opening Chord’ takes audiences on an immersive journey through poetry and theatre, exploring themes of isolation, immigration, displacement, survival and the enduring power of creativity.

Tickets are £5 and can be booked on eventbrite
