Originally from Canterbury, Kerry is a writer and theatre-maker based in Bradford. She enjoys exploring contemporary social issues within her work such as class, gender and the welfare state. Kerry has recently graduated with a Masters in Writing for Performance from the University of Leeds.
Last year, her short play ‘Beneath the Table’ was performed at RIFT New Writing Festival in association with Leeds Playhouse and the University of Leeds. Also, ‘Beneath the Table’ will be performed E-Merge Festival 2020 in London (date tbc). Kerry was involved in creating an educational performance/workshop with Bloomin’ Buds called ‘Get In’ which toured various schools in West Yorkshire. Additionally, she was an artist on ‘Working Class Voices in Lockdown’ project this year.
Currently, Kerry is working on a theatre piece called ‘Thyme Café’ which delves into her experiences of having parents in prison during her teenage years.
I am so excited to continue working with the Bloomin’ Buds team as an Artist in Residence. As a working-class woman, I am looking forward to being involved in projects that are close to my heart. The experience will be fundamental in allowing me to progress my career as a writer and theatre-maker with Bloomin’ Buds valuable guidance and expertise. I believe it will open the doors to numerous opportunities and I will be able to network with various -industry contacts.Kerry Wright
